When tarping is needed
Tarping is a temporary mitigation step when active leaks, missing shingles, punctures, or storm openings expose the home to water damage.
What comes after tarping
A follow-up inspection should identify whether a permanent repair is enough or whether replacement should be considered because of age or widespread damage.
Protect the interior
Document interior stains, move valuables, and reduce water exposure where safe. Do not climb a wet or steep roof without proper equipment.
